About Ashton Hayes

Ashton Hayes is a typical Cheshire village that dates back to Roman times. It lies at the base of a sandstone escarpment on the eastern edge of the Cheshire plains. For a modern location map please click here.

Ashton Hayes Parish Council voted to embark on the Going Carbon Neutral Project at its November 2005 meeting. Since then we have had tremendous support for the initiative from the local community, landowners, local councils and university and national organisations. The project will have its official launch on 26th January 2006 and this is being sponsored and supported by a wide range of businesses who have put their corporate social responsibilities at the heart of their business culture.

“To become carbon neutral we have to assess our current emissions and then take steps to reduce them through personal energy saving and lifestyle considerations. We can’t prevent all our emissions but those we do produce can be offset through local renewable energy schemes or forestry projects. Eliminating our carbon footprint will take time but we will help everyone who is willing to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions through simple, and sometimes cost-saving measures,” says Project Coordinator Garry Charnock.

Our aim is to encourage everyone in our community to think about how their way of life affects their impact on climate change and to help people to understand how simple actions can make a big impact on CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.
